Over 3 million people are living with cancer in the UK today and by 2030, this figure will likely rise to 4 million.
Luke wholeheartedly believed there would be breakthroughs in cancer prevention and treatment and therefore supporting a charity conducting research is key to the foundation.
Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is the world’s largest independent cancer research organisation. It was formed on 4 February 2002 by the merger of The Cancer Research Campaign and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Cancer Research UK conducts research using both its own staff and grant-funded researchers. It also provides information about cancer and runs campaigns aimed at raising awareness and influencing public policy.
The organisation’s work is almost entirely funded by the public. It raises money through donations, legacies, community fundraising, events, retail, and corporate partnerships. Over 40,000 people are regular volunteers today.
Cancer Research UK conducts important work in the research of cholangiocarcinoma. Click here to learn more about these studies, which help improve the understanding of this rare form of cancer.
The organisation is also conducting vital research on cancers that disproportionately affect children and young people, and the treatments that are available. Click here to discover more about it.

Luke suffered from a rare form of cancer – cholangiocarcinoma – cancer of the bile duct.
AMMF is the only UK cholangiocarcinoma charity, and its main objectives are to raise awareness of the disease; provide information to those who need it; encourage and support specialised research into the causes; and find ways to achieve earlier diagnosis and effective treatments for it. They also advocate the patients’ viewpoint in national and international fora.

Macmillan nurses visited Luke during his numerous hospital stays.
They shared kind words of support and took an interest in him and the family. They let him know that they were there for us all if we wanted and a lot of information was provided to us as a family, which was of great support.
