A Summit to Celebrate: Megan and Pierre Conquer Kilimanjaro for Luke

Some challenges are measured in miles, but this one was measured in metres above the clouds.

Huge congratulations to Megan and Pierre, who reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, in memory of Luke.

After seven days of trekking through everything from tropical rainforest to alpine desert, the pair reached Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres / 19,341 ft) in the early hours of the morning, greeted by glorious skies and a hard-earned sense of pride. With no phone signal for the entire ascent, their first message home couldn’t come until they’d well and truly reached the top of the world.

Megan and Pierre are dear friends of the Hart family and knew Luke well, having spent much of their growing-up years in his company. He would have been so honoured and proud to see them take on such a feat in his name.

Their extraordinary efforts have raised £3,833.75 (including Gift Aid) for Cancer Research UK, with every penny going towards cancer research and support services. Rare cancers receive far less funding and attention than more common forms of the disease, yet affect thousands of families every year. This makes reaching heights like these, for a cause like this, matter all the more.

This latest achievement lifts the Luke Hart Foundation’s grand total to an incredible £225,834.71, a figure that continues to climb, step by determined step.

Thank you, Megan and Pierre, for scaling new heights for Luke, and for reminding us all just how far a little kindness can travel. There’s still time to support Megan and Pierre’s climb, donations can be made here and any support is gratefully received.
